From the Convent of San Francesco you follow a stretch of paved road and then enter a cart track that briefly goes up a panoramic hill passing through a farm and finally descending along the ditch Cinante that you cross to take you along the Val Fluvione. This valley still houses some important artifacts of vital importance to the economy of these rural areas: the hydraulic mills. Among them the Pignoloni Mill that dates back to 1629 as written on the lintel located on the north side, a real jewel of hydraulic engineering! Its wheel tree of remarkable length is placed outside the structure in order to take advantage of the waterfall of the Arena, once the shutters are open. We are now back on the road in the direction of Pedara di Roccafluvione, first making a short stop in the Church of Sant'Ippolito and Cassiano, in sandstone and with low arched windows. Its tower is located in adherence to the front of the church on the center of the façade: it is a rare architectural solution, a type of attic bell tower where the bell tower takes precedence over the entrance portal forming a protective porch on the ground floor. The structure had the double task of protecting the community from external attacks and guarding valuable stocks of crops and processed products in times of famine. The small settlement of Pedara hides a small treasure trove of biodiversity: the ancient vineyard of the Fabiani farm, cultivated with native vines planted on a free foot as was custom before 1860-1870, that is, before the arrival in Italy of phyllossera (phytophagus insect that attacks the roots of the vine). From these ancient vines, cultivated with traditional techniques in perfect harmony with the environment, an excellent quality wine is produced. After a short stop to refuel, take the path again along the path leading to Pizzorullo hill. Here we meet the ruins of the Castle of Pizzorullo surrounded by lush vegetation on top of the lonely hill that looks at the upper Fluvione valley. Since the 13th century, the Castle of Pizzorullo has been subject to the State of Ascoli. This is the stage where nature triumphs. We are located within the wonderful and uncontaminated area of the Lost Apennines, within the Ceresa mountain group, where you will meet many abandoned villages. You will cross chestnut groves and beech trees until you reach 1200 meters above sea level where you can enjoy extraordinary views of the Vettore massif and the Fluvione valley.  The rock settlements of Piandelloro are very interesting, characteristic houses built close to the walls of sandstone rock with rooms used as stables and barns. The stage will end in Forcella, a medieval village perched on a rocky terrace. The ditch of colors and the rock settlements of PiandelloroAlong the comfortable path that was once the ancient connecting route between the town of Piandelloro and the valley floor, you can observe houses set in the rock (examples of rock constructions) that until the 50s were inhabited! The path winds through mixed woods (chestnut groves and holm oaks) and sandstone banks.
